Discover Kobe Sushi Teriyaki

If you ever find yourself cruising through Centralia and craving fresh rolls or a sizzling plate of teriyaki, Kobe Sushi Teriyaki at 513 Harrison Ave, Centralia, WA 98531, United States, is the kind of spot that quietly wins you over. I stopped in on a rainy afternoon after a long drive up I-5, expecting a quick bite. Instead, I ended up lingering over green tea and realizing this local diner-style Japanese restaurant had far more depth than its modest storefront suggests.

The first thing that stands out is the menu. It’s surprisingly expansive without feeling overwhelming. You’ve got classic sushi rolls-California rolls, spicy tuna, salmon avocado-alongside specialty rolls layered with eel sauce, tempura flakes, and creamy sauces. On the hot side, the teriyaki plates are a major draw. I ordered the chicken teriyaki combo, which came with steamed rice, a crisp side salad, and perfectly grilled chicken glazed in a balanced sweet-savory sauce. The portion size was generous, something I’ve noticed consistently mentioned in online reviews from local diners.

What impressed me most, though, was the attention to freshness. According to guidance from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration on seafood safety, proper handling and temperature control are critical when serving raw fish. Watching the sushi chef behind the counter, I could see the careful process-fish stored at the right temperature, cut to order, and assembled with deliberate precision. The rice was slightly warm and seasoned just right, which aligns with what many culinary experts, including chefs trained in traditional Japanese methods, emphasize as the backbone of good sushi. It’s not just about the fish; it’s about balance, texture, and timing.

On a second visit, I brought a friend who’s picky about sashimi. He ordered the salmon and tuna sashimi plate and immediately commented on the clean flavor and smooth texture. That freshness isn’t accidental. In conversations with restaurant staff, I learned they receive multiple weekly deliveries to maintain quality. It’s a small operational detail, but it makes a noticeable difference on the plate. In food service, consistent sourcing is often what separates an average meal from an excellent one.

The teriyaki dishes deserve their own spotlight. The beef teriyaki had that slight char you only get from high-heat grilling, sealing in the juices while caramelizing the sauce. Nutrition-wise, teriyaki can be a balanced option when paired with steamed rice and salad, offering protein and carbohydrates in reasonable portions. While exact calorie counts aren’t posted in-store, the ingredients are straightforward-grilled meats, rice, vegetables-making it easier for diners to make informed choices compared to heavily processed fast food.

Atmosphere plays a big role here too. It’s casual, clean, and welcoming. You’ll see families sharing sushi boats, high school students grabbing bento boxes, and office workers on lunch breaks. Service is fast but not rushed. During peak hours, especially around dinner, it can get busy, so calling ahead for takeout is a smart move. The location on Harrison Avenue makes it convenient, whether you’re local or just passing through Centralia.

Online reviews often highlight the friendly staff and consistent quality. From my experience, that reputation holds up. Orders are accurate, special requests are handled without fuss, and the staff is happy to explain menu items if you’re new to Japanese cuisine. For anyone unfamiliar with terms like nigiri, sashimi, or bento, they break it down in simple, approachable language.

Of course, no restaurant is perfect. Wait times can stretch during rush hours, and seating is limited compared to larger chain establishments. Still, the trade-off is a more personal, neighborhood feel. It doesn’t try to be flashy or overly trendy. Instead, it focuses on doing the basics exceptionally well: fresh sushi, flavorful teriyaki, fair prices, and dependable service.

If you care about quality ingredients, thoughtfully prepared Japanese dishes, and a relaxed dining experience, this spot at 513 Harrison Ave in Centralia delivers exactly what you hope for when you’re searching for sushi and teriyaki done right.

  • Take my money. Best coconut curry I’ve had since moving to Centralia. Didn’t skimp on the tofu. Tons of vegan options on the menu and obviously lots of meat and seafood. Clean, beautiful atmosphere. Prices standard.

  • Just great all around! So refreshing to have a clean, comforting atmosphere, with understated, graceful yet quick service. We ordered a variety of common dishes to try and they were all great temp, cooked very well, presented nicely, and well seasoned. Love the attention to detail in providing ornate sauce dispenser and holders, glassware, and plastic (reusable) chopsticks. Orange chicken, Hibachi steak fried rice, Cowboy sushi roll, and gyoza (deep fried) The only con I could think of was that I saw they had pan-fried gyoza on their menu but no longer had them.

  • The food was better than I expected. I had salmon in curry which was delicious. The salmon was crisp and well seasoned. The meats in all the breaded dishes that my family ordered were quite crisp. My husband commented that the general two's chicken was a bit sweet. The server was very attentive. My only warning: The ladies restroom has a paper sign that asks you not to flush toilet paper. I am such a rule breaker. Apparently, this is common in some countries and I am not well traveled.

  • This little hole in the wall had made my day. The place is absolutely stunning, they had a lunch special where you get rolls under 20$ and they were fast! It’s very affordable in comparison to other places I have been. I’m very impressed and I will be suggesting this place to many people in the future!
